This may seem obvious, but there are an aweful lot of web sites out there that seem to have lost there way when it comes to delivering a message.
Message
To be fair very few sites are just about one subject, but it is important to prioritise the various elements of your message. Are you trying to sell on line, get people to 'phone you, visit you or to seek out a distributor? - We cannot decide these for you, but our detatched status can often give an insight to the punter's thinking.
It is a good idea to look at competitors' web sites. What do they do right? What do they do wrong? Where do they rate on your chosen keywords (see below)? - We have a service that does this for you - see
Promotion and Maintenance
Audience
The content and style of your website must appeal to your intended audience, obviously you would not use cartoon characters to illustrate a deeply technical subject, but this principle applies in more subtle ways also.
On this site, for instance, we have assumed that, because you are considering a web presence for the first time, you are not necessarily experienced in “surfing the net”; we have therefore tried to keep the navigation consistant and clear with a direct “Home” link, displayed under our logo.
Keywords
Keywords are very important in getting your site rated in search engines and their selection and positioning is something on which we have to work together. Much has been written on this subject so we can do no better than to refer you to
spider-food.net (a “spider” is a search engine's robot that crawls around the web looking for pages to index). There is a lot of information on the spider-food site and we are not saying you have to read it all, but the section on keywords is a must.
We can assist in the selection of keywords, using specialist software.
[You may have noticed that on this site we sometimes use the phrase “web site” and sometimes the word “website”. We usually like to be consistent in our presentation, but here we are trying to capture visitors with either spelling.]
